GOOD & EVIL

There are two ways in life: Good and Evil
And every choice reveals you

Growing up, if we are lucky
We learn the truth about evil and good
We learn that wrong is not right
And that some things we shouldn't
And some things we should

Here is the problem, it is not always
So clear in the messages that we receive
And the fear that presents itself
Loves to deceive all our senses
Until we believe the appearances

As a result in our lives, problems
Surface and complicate our sanity
And so we develop completely inadequate
Thoughts and perceptions of reality

It is imperative we can distinguish
Between good and evil so we can extinguish
The thoughts and perceptions that compromise choices
If not we might as well relinquish our voices

Here we are again, it's so hard to tell
Is this the road to heaven or the path to hell
Opposites are calling, fighting for your mind
And the choice is yours what will you decide

Evil is all about my toys
Shouting so you can hear my voice
Good is the norm, brother, life, joy
Helping us block out the white noise

Diversity, purity, sympathy, empathy
Happy prosperity, creative energy
Honesty, decency
Truly the reason we struggle together
This human endeavor is never quite easy
The suffering we see can make us so queasy
And sometimes we turn
To alcohol, ridicule, soon you feel pretty cool
Giving up every hope and concern

This is the evil way, don't care what people say
No, you just turn away, follow the greed
Spending your hours devouring power
And killing the flower to nurture the weed

Evil is easy, evil is obvious
Evil is sinister, decadent, ominous
Evil will rape, murder, pillage for opulence
Brushing its teeth as it slaughters the populace

Then again goodness can be evil too
Cause it's not what you think, it's about what you do
Positive thinking is not quite enough
You can wish for the best as the worst calls your bluff

The choices we make create the world we live in
And they define us
What are the choices that define you

Step over your brother or lend him a hand
Give up on your dreams or come up with a plan
Step into your wisdom or idolize youth
Deceive what you grieve or give into the truth

Nurture the forest or burn down the city
Pick yourself up or give into self-pity
Forgive and forget or vindictively vicious
Simple and kind or malign and malicious

Every day in every nation
We have to struggle with endless temptation
Will we abstain or follow the crumbs
We pay to succumb, when we pray overcome

Evil will only turn into more evil
And goodness will only perpetuate good
What it comes down to is kindness to people
And what would you change if you could
